Counseling

Getting Started

Reaching out is often the hardest part — so we’ve made the rest simple. Here’s exactly what to expect, from choosing a counselor to settling into a rhythm that helps you make real progress.

Meet with a counselor online from wherever you are — or in person at one of our four locations.

  1. 1

Find Your Counselor — or Let Us Help

Our team brings a wide range of backgrounds, training, and experience. Some of our counselors list particular specialties, but the truth is we counsel people through most of life’s struggles — so you don’t have to find someone whose focus lines up exactly with what you’re facing.

Take a look at our team and see if someone stands out to you. And if you’re not sure who would be the best fit, that’s completely normal. There’s a simple form right on the Team page where you can ask us your questions, and we’ll help point you toward the counselor who’s a good match for your situation.

  2. 2

    Request an Appointment

Once you’ve found a counselor — or you’re ready for us to help match you — you can request an appointment online and set up your counseling account. As part of setting up your account, you’ll be asked to add a credit or debit card. When your counselor accepts your request, you’ll be sent your welcome intake form and policies form electronically to complete before your first session.

Your card is automatically charged after each session is completed, and you’ll receive a receipt for your records.

  3. 3

    Complete Your Paperwork Well

Please take your time with these forms — it really does make a difference. Your intake form is where you begin telling us your story, and the more thoughtfully you fill it out, the more productive your first session will be. It allows your counselor to come prepared and to prioritize what matters most to you right from the start, rather than spending your first hour gathering the basics.

  4. 4

    Get Your Reminders

You’ll receive appointment reminders online — most people choose to get them by text or email, whichever is easiest for you. That way your session is always on your radar.

  5. 5

    Settle Into a Rhythm

Most people begin by meeting weekly for the first four weeks, then move to every other week. At that point, you and your counselor will talk together about the pace that’s right for you going forward. Every situation is different, but we’ve seen most counselees make excellent progress in about 10 to 16 sessions over four to five months.

Using the online scheduler, you can book your next few appointments at times that fit your life. Setting them up ahead helps you stay consistent — which is where real progress happens.
