Pursuing Wisdom in an Age of Foolishness

Pursuing wisdom in an age of foolishness!

It feels like we are living in crazy times and we don’t know what to do about it. However, fallen creation has always lived in crazy times; it is the human condition.

Without wisdom, we have always floundered as humans. Always, without exception! Since creation, wisdom continues to call out to us and we have a choice on how to respond.

An Encouraging Email

I got an email this week from an old friend of BCC who was trained in biblical counseling. He was seeking resources to help his friend through depression, and we were able to send him some resources to help his friend.

He replied to my email with a story of encouragement that is helpful for us all to consider: Wisdom does matter.

The kinds of choices that we make do impact our life for good or difficulty.

Please tell your dad that my wife and I will forever remember what he and others did for our son. Our son has continued in the faith and been a wonderful Christian father and husband, and he has been a dedicated servant leader in his local church, living a good Christian witness.

It was your dad who introduced him to the gospel and tough-love, no-nonsense biblical counseling that the Holy Spirit used to draw him to his knees and to accept Jesus as Savior and Lord.

His Word Makes the Difference

These kinds of emails greatly encourage us at BCC. Not because we take the credit, but because the wisdom that God has given us in His Word is what makes the difference.

This is a great example of someone who listened to wise counsel and it changed their life. As a biblical counseling center, we wholeheartedly believe that no greater wisdom is found than in knowing and applying the scriptures best exemplified in the life that Christ modeled for us.

How are you doing with wisdom? Proverbs 8:11 says,

For wisdom is better than jewels, and all you may desire cannot compare with her.

Everyone who seeks counseling wants something in life to be different. However, not everyone who comes to counseling wants to do the hard work of embracing wisdom. Seeking and applying wisdom is a choice that changes our life for the better.

More Wisdom from Proverbs!

Proverbs 8 concludes with several powerful verses about embracing wisdom: Read them with hope!

[32] And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways. [33] Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. [34] Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. [35] For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD, [36] but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death. (ESV)

It takes humility to continue to seek and apply wisdom, but the end result is worth it.

You might be frustrated with your struggle right now. Maybe it’s your marriage, or your parents, or your finances, health, career path, or church. Whatever it is, God’s wisdom will help you thrive if you seek it.

Choose wisdom and you choose the better life, a life that God blesses.
